Jennifer earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Laurentian University in 1997. After gaining diverse nursing experience in Texas, Mississauga, and Sudbury, she returned to school to become a Primary Health Care Nurse Practitioner in 2008. She served as the Executive Director of the Sudbury District Nurse Practitioner Clinics for 12 years where she successfully led the expansion of services with a detailed business case that resulted in a third clinic location in the downtown area, aimed at serving marginalized populations.
Her proposal emphasized population health principles and health equity, ensuring that social accountability remained central to care.
In 2017, she obtained her Diploma in Health Care Management and she is currently pursuing her Master's in Health Administration, further enhancing her expertise in health care leadership and management. Jennifer has governance experience from her time as a community board member and she was an inaugural member of the Nurse Practitioner-Led Clinics Association executive. She actively participates in various local and provincial healthcare initiatives, further advocating for community health and well-being.
Valerie served as the Director of Patient Services with Ontario Health at Home from 2022 to 2024, overseeing the rehabilitation, pediatric, and mental health portfolios. Prior to that, she was the Executive Director of the North East Specialized Geriatric Centre, a program of Health Sciences North, from 2013 to 2022. During her tenure there, she also took on the role of interim Co-Executive Director for the Provincial Geriatric Leadership Office.
Valerie has extensive consulting experience as a Senior Consultant with the North East Local Health Integration Network and previously held the position of Chief Executive Officer at ICAN (Independence Centre and Network). She holds a Master of Arts in Leadership with a health specialization, a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Laurentian University, and a Human Resources Certificate from Queen’s University.
A member of the Canadian College of Health Care Leaders, Valerie has served on numerous boards over the past twenty-five years, gaining significant insight into board governance. Her contributions include serving on the United Way/Centraide Sudbury Board of Directors and participating in the founding boards of various local and provincial organizations. She was also a provincial appointee to the Algoma Health Unit Board and most recently acted as a special advisor for strategic planning for the Sudbury Nurse Practitioners Clinic Board of Directors.
